ScoutQuest

Scouts on a quest for action, adventure, and treasure scoured the nation's capital July 24-25, 2010 during ScoutQuest! They were able to uncover clues that unlocked the link between Scouting and some of our greatest national treasures in an interactive citywide hunt, held in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Learn more about it!

Using QR Codes

It's as easy as taking a picture! When you snap a photo of a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone, it reveals a hidden message. Several free applications are available that can read the codes like i-nigma, BeeTagg, or the Zxing Reader. During ScoutQuest, guides equipped with HTC Aria smartphones were on hand so everyone could play the game.

National Archives

Hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
www.archives.gov/nae/

Many people know the National Archives as the keeper of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. But it also holds in trust the records of ordinary American citizens—military records of the brave men and women who have fought for our country, naturalization records of the immigrants whose dreams have shaped our nation, even the canceled check from the purchase of Alaska.

For more than seven decades, the National Archives and Records Administration has both preserved and provided access to some of our nation's most important records. That includes a wealth of archival footage about the first century of the Boy Scouts of America.

In commemoration of the centennial, the National Archives is presenting, "From the Vaults: 100 Years of the Boy Scouts." This 60 minute film will be shown on July 26, 29, and 30 at noon in the National Archives' William G. McGowan Theater. Scouts in uniform and their families will also be offered early admission on July 23, 24, and 25 between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. at the Special Events Entrance.

The National Archives Experience is free to the public and open every day except Thanksgiving and December 25.
