ScoutQuest

Scouts on a quest for action, adventure, and treasure scoured the nation's capital July 24-25, 2010 during ScoutQuest! They were able to uncover clues that unlocked the link between Scouting and some of our greatest national treasures in an interactive citywide hunt, held in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Learn more about it!

Using QR Codes

It's as easy as taking a picture! When you snap a photo of a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone, it reveals a hidden message. Several free applications are available that can read the codes like i-nigma, BeeTagg, or the Zxing Reader. During ScoutQuest, guides equipped with HTC Aria smartphones were on hand so everyone could play the game.

Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum

Hours 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
www.nasm.si.edu

There is only one place in the world you can see original 1903 Wright Flyer, Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, Chuck Yeager's Bell X-1, John Glenn's Friendship 7 spacecraft, the Apollo 11 command module and a lunar rock sample you can touch—the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum. It maintains the world's largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft among some 50,000 artifacts that range in size from Saturn V rockets to jetliners to gliders to space helmets to microchips. The Museum is a vital center for historical research on aviation and spaceflight and the related science and technology.

Did you know that at least 207 of the 312 astronauts selected since 1959 have been Scouts? That includes 11 of the 12 men who have walked on the moon! Come to the National Air and Space Museum to learn their stories and see their spacecraft firsthand in our Apollo to the Moon exhibit.

The National Air and Space Museum is located at 6th and Independence Ave on the National Mall. It is open from 10am to 7:30pm throughout the summer (with some exceptions). Check online for up-to-date opening times, IMAX and planetarium show schedules, and more information to plan your visit.
