ScoutQuest

Scouts on a quest for action, adventure, and treasure scoured the nation's capital July 24-25, 2010 during ScoutQuest! They were able to uncover clues that unlocked the link between Scouting and some of our greatest national treasures in an interactive citywide hunt, held in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Learn more about it!

Using QR Codes

It's as easy as taking a picture! When you snap a photo of a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone, it reveals a hidden message. Several free applications are available that can read the codes like i-nigma, BeeTagg, or the Zxing Reader. During ScoutQuest, guides equipped with HTC Aria smartphones were on hand so everyone could play the game.

National Museum of Crime and Punishment

Hours 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you've ever pondered a day in the life of a crime scene investigator, the National Museum of Crime & Punishment is as close to the "real deal" as you can get. Finding yourself in the middle of a fully intact crime scene, you begin your investigation, gathering vital clues to determine what happened when, where, why and by whom. Learn how to solve crime through the use of forensic science technology such as ballistics, blood analysis, fingerprinting, and dental and facial reconstruction.

Scouts who want to try their hand (literally) at crime detection need only arrange a visit. The National Museum of Crime & Punishment offers a special fingerprinting merit badge program to units who visit the museum as a group!

Described by Good Morning America as a "must see for CSI fans," the National Museum of Crime & Punishment explores the technology and science behind solving crimes, highlights the heroes of law enforcement, and teaches visitors about how to be crime fighters in their own neighborhoods with valuable safety tips. Over 100 interactive exhibits fill the 3-floor, 25,000 square foot museum.
