ScoutQuest

Scouts on a quest for action, adventure, and treasure scoured the nation's capital July 24-25, 2010 during ScoutQuest! They were able to uncover clues that unlocked the link between Scouting and some of our greatest national treasures in an interactive citywide hunt, held in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Learn more about it!

Using QR Codes

It's as easy as taking a picture! When you snap a photo of a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone, it reveals a hidden message. Several free applications are available that can read the codes like i-nigma, BeeTagg, or the Zxing Reader. During ScoutQuest, guides equipped with HTC Aria smartphones were on hand so everyone could play the game.

BSA Grand Centennial Parade

Parade Time: 1 to 3 p.m., July 25
(ScoutQuest Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 24 and 25)

On July 25, the Boy Scouts of America will proudly march down Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C. The parade will show communities near and far that Scouting is alive, strong, and as relevant today as when our journey began. The BSA Grand Centennial Parade will mark the first time since 1937—when then President Franklin D. Roosevelt invited Scouts to hold the first National Jamboree on the National Mall—that BSA has had such a commanding presence in our nation's capital.

The BSA Grand Centennial Parade will rival some of our nation's largest parades with:

  • six custom-designe floats, five depicting Scouting's core principles and one representing the Eagle Scout division;
  • 12 balloons, including two beavers from the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver;
  • Justin Guarini, former Cub Scout, a singer/songwriter/actor who rose to fame in 2002 as first runner-up on American Idol;
  • Screech (the Washington Nationals mascot), the GEICO Racing Presidents, and characters from Six Flags Great Adventure; and
  • thousands of Scouts, Scout families and Scouting supporters from across the nation.

And that's not all! We'll have vintage and military vehicles, entertainment troupes, marching bands from across the country, re-enactors, equestrian teams, and flags, flags and more flags!

Don't miss your chance to be part of history.
