ScoutQuest

Scouts on a quest for action, adventure, and treasure scoured the nation's capital July 24-25, 2010 during ScoutQuest! They were able to uncover clues that unlocked the link between Scouting and some of our greatest national treasures in an interactive citywide hunt, held in partnership with some of the greatest museums in the world. Learn more about it!

Using QR Codes

It's as easy as taking a picture! When you snap a photo of a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone, it reveals a hidden message. Several free applications are available that can read the codes like i-nigma, BeeTagg, or the Zxing Reader. During ScoutQuest, guides equipped with HTC Aria smartphones were on hand so everyone could play the game.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum, the nation's first collection of American art, is an unparalleled record of the American experience. The collection, one of the largest and most inclusive of American art in the world, captures the aspirations, character and imagination of the American people throughout three centuries.

This summer the museum presents, Telling Stories: Norman Rockwell from the Collections of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, the first major exhibition to explore in-depth the connections between Rockwell's iconic images of American life and the movies. Telling Stories celebrates American ideals about love of country, personal honor, and the value of family. The exhibition also investigates how Rockwell, Lucas, and Spielberg have transformed ordinary people and the quotidian incidents of everyday experience into stories that show us our better selves and the values that have sustained Americans through good times and bad.

In conjunction with Telling Stories, the museum is hosting Scouting Family Day Saturday, July 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come in search of your ScoutQuest clues and stay for campfire storytelling, photo opportunities, live performances by Scouts, and pinewood derby racing. More information can be found on the museum's online calendar.
